Does this Hawaiian make sense to you?

Aloha e ko'u poe heluhelu,

Let’s keep this one short and simple

I read a lot of Hawaiian by the time I started speaking.

I could see the structures but I couldn’t quite understand what was going on in them.

That’s okay.

First, read this short paragraph all the way through and out loud.

If you already picked out the words you know, next, see if you can find any sentence structures or patterns. What words do you see repeated or paired together? 

“Mamua’e o ka hiki ana mai o na kumu ao a me na haole naauao mai na aina e mai aole i kakauia na palapala ma ka olelo Hawaii. Aohe nae i liuliu ka noho ana o na kumu maanei a ua imi lakou e kakau i keia olelo, a ma ka makahiki 1822, ua paiia ka puke mua ma ka olelo Hawaii. Ma ia wa mai a hiki i keia wa ua emoole ka holo imua o ka pai ana i na buke.”
