Improve your Hawaiian with this activity

Sep 01, 2023

Aloha kakou i keia la,

Last week you used the resource by reading it out loud.

Now… What the heck did you just read?

This week, we’re going to use the same resource but dive in a little deeper.

  • Make notes of the words you don’t know yet in a notebook or your phone.
  • Look up those words and write down their meanings. (You can use ulukau.org or wehewehe.org)

Some repeating sentence structures you’ll notice are:

Ka + verb + ana

  • “ka hiki ana mai o na kumu ao” - (before) teachers arrived
  • “ka noho ana o na kumu” - Teachers living/staying (in Hawaii)
  • “ka pai ana i na buke” - Printing books

Again, I know these are simple exercises but if you are consistent with daily practice you’re going to see significant improvements in your Hawaiian.

Next week I’ll share another way to use a new resource.

me ka oiaio no,

Malu
